On September 27, 2012, the Department of Justice (DOJ) settled a claim against Diversified Maintenance Systems (DMS), a Tampa based company, over allegations of discriminatory employment practices. DMS terminated an employee after receiving a data mismatch from E-Verify. The employee charged that she was not given proper instructions or paperwork to challenge the mismatch and prove her work eligibility. DMS refused to reinstate the employee even after the Social Security Administration verified that the employee was eligible to work. DMS agreed to pay the employee back pay with interest, civil penalties, and to undergo an anti-discrimination training program. To read more, click here.
