How to obtain visas for children? 

We know it can be difficult to travel overseas with kids and this post is intended to facilitate your visa application for your child.

While all children need a visa for travel to the U.S., kids under the age of 14 do not have to appear at the U.S. embassy for an interview or have their fingerprints taken.

To obtain the visa for their children, parents need to complete the online DS-160 visa application form, pay the visa fee and schedule an appointment through the department of state’s online system to go into the applicable embassy for an interview on behalf of the child.

For the interview, you will need at a minimum, to bring your child’s valid passport, birth certificate including the name of both parents, a printout of the DS-160 conformation form, confirmation that the visa fee was paid and U.S. passport required photo for the child.  As proof of your identification, you should bring your current passport.

If anyone other than a parent is applying for a visa on behalf of a child, or intends to take a child under the age of 18 to the U.S., they will need to present a signed authorization letter from the child’s parents.
