Trial Attorney – Local Government in matters involving Civil Rights, Personal Injury, Employment and Land Use

Job Description

We are seeking to add a skilled Trial Attorney to our local government team that is exceptionally capable of handling any and all cases from open to close. We anticipate that the client responsibility will gradually transition from our senior shareholder to the attorney who fills this position, and as such, are seeking candidates with experience, knowledge and the right attitude to support a team.

Primary Responsibilities

Meet with, advise, and prepare documents for clients of the firm, and provide expertise on various matters, including, but not limited to:

  • Managing multiple cases from intake to conclusion
  • Managing litigation matters for clients from open to close, including:
  • Drafting pleadings and other legal documents (e.g., motions and discovery requests) Preparing witnesses for court appearances
  • Communicating with clients throughout the litigation process, working to manage their expectations
  • Interviewing witnesses, gathering evidence, and interviewing experts
  • Drafting legal briefs and motions to be submitted to the court
  • Attending local government board meetings
  • Drafting pleadings and other legal documents
  • Supervising and directing associate attorneys and paralegals
  • Meticulously proofreading documents
  • Managing submission of responses, filings, etc. for accuracy and ensuring timeliness
  • Conducting research on legal issues associated with local government, civil rights, land use and employment cases
  • Working and collaborating with other attorneys within the firm as desired or needed on a cross-referral basis

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school
  • Admission to practice and in good standing with the State Bar of Florida
  • 8-10 years of civil litigation experience
  • Exceptional writing and research skills
  • Municipal, Civil Rights, Land Use and Labor and Employment law experience preferred
  • First-chair trial experience (jury and bench trials)

  • Resident of Florida
  • Municipal, Civil Rights, Land Use and Labor and Employment law experience
